This is a very interesting moment in time. The markets are tumbling, but not just stocks and crypto… inflation is up, the cost of food, gas and energy are up… the housing market is ehhh … and venture capital??? Well, let’s just say most of the world is facing a lot of uncertainty.
So what do you do when things are uncertain in the future?
You stay PRESENT IN THE NOW.
And the Now.

Here and Now.
If you have not read Eckhart Tolle’s book The Power of Now… please do! It changed my Life, and I am sure it can change yours too! Hopefully for the better! For those of you who know me, know that I study psychology and have ventured far deep into the woowoo, to only find myself back here in the present 3D world being present in the day to day, just being the best human I can be. Regardless, I am guided to share today’s message from Source because I find it to be relevant to the mission of GenerousAF and the path we are on.
So GenerousAF is founded on the idea of being a pre-seed venture scout + nonprofit organization that promotes STEAM initiatives that has a positive impact on the community. That’s a mouthful for sure. It’s important to me, as the founder, to keep this mission clear and concise. There is so much I want to contribute to in this world. There are plenty of ways to contribute, however, it helps to have a mission to keep the ship steered in a very specific direction. Trying to be niche in such a broad area as STEAM + Community Driven…. That is Pre-Seed…. It’s a challenge, yes. But that is the point GenerousAF is aiming to prove. There is real talent and worthy causes being created everyday that just needs a little push to keep the momentum going. The momentum can have effects on others that we may never know, however that positive effect on one person can change the world for the better… and that makes the effort worthwhile afterall!
Something I’ve learned in the past 6 months is that, a business does not make a nonprofit, and a nonprofit does not make a profitable business! Seems like something I should’ve known having completed a MBA. Sometimes, mistakes just have to be made to know for sure that it just will not work. And so we pivot, and pivot again. There are numerous projects in the works at GenerousAF. The tricky part is that it is mostly just run by one person… and that one person has only so many hours in the day… and those hours are spent in the field, connecting with others, volunteering in the community, counseling, consulting, raising money for other nonprofits, sharing ideas and helping others launch businesses. So, sorry not sorry, if GenerousAF isn’t fitting in the cookie-cutter mold of what the general consensus is of how a VC-firm or Philanthropic Foundation operates. It just is what it is. We are successful and making an impact as our mission intended.
We are only just getting started.
Our most recent grant in 2022 was to support Reyes’ing Hope, a new scholarship fund for skateboarders in need of mental health care. There were over 300 applicants for the grant, and only 5 grants were available, with 1 from the Bay Area selected. GenerousAF contributed to the campaign so that another person from the Bay Area could receive a grant for mental health care. The grant was sent directly to their mental health practitioner. Details of the grant winners are kept private because mental health and privacy are important…ya know?
